International Ordering Information for Second Avatar Magazine
Posted by Acastus on August 19, 2007 @ 2:45 pm EST (link)
Dave Roman, one of the Editors of Nick Mag Presents, has posted instructions on his DeviantArt
account, where he is known as yaytime, on how US fans can best obtain a copy of the new magazine and how overseas fans of Avatar can go
about ordering them.
To help get the word out as far as possible, here are the instructions straight from Dave:
"The best place to find the magazine is a newsstand or at a "smoke shop" that has a diverse magazine section.
Often it will be in the kids’ section. Barnes and Noble, Borders, Chapters, etc. tend to be even better stocked. Often,
Blockbuster Video and grocery stores carry them too. Sometimes they can even be found for sale on eBay...
International
folks can order the Avatar magazine (or any back issues) directly through the publisher by emailing: Jesse.Pirraglia@nick.com
You just have to pay cover price plus shipping."
This is only a snippet of Dave's full DA journal entry, and
we encourage everyone to drop by and give it a read here. Apparently, the sales of the first magazine were only mediocre, so a good showing this time is really
the only hope for a third magazine. As Dave's awesome drawing at right reminds us, help keep the fire alive by buying a copy
or two when this new issue hits the streets next month!

Second SDCC Video & Amira's SDCC Coverage Is Up !
Posted by Acastus on August 8, 2007 @ 6:55 pm EST (link)
The second SDCC video containing additional footage of the Avatar panel is now up! You can access it by clicking on the
link above or by clicking on the logo at left. Alternatecoppa of Distant Horizon / Dongbu Feng has worked hard on putting
this together from different footage sources and we thank him for his prodigious efforts! Here's a message from Alternatecoppa
describing the video:
"Hi everyone! It's Alternatecoppa. Here it is, the video
footage I edited together from as many of the Avatar events as I could attend on Saturday July 28th at the San Diego Comic
Con.
You've waited a long time, and so have I. But it was important to get it right. First of all, let me
remind everyone that we were kindly asked to refrain from showing the entire 60 minutes of the panel by Nickelodeon since
they wish to keep some of what happened as a treat for us on the Book 3 DVD box set special features. While we know others
have ignored this wish and posted the panel video in full elsewhere, I hope you'll enjoy the 6 minute summary I'm
bringing to you here all the same.
The video is fairly long, 20 minutes in total (so try to be patient with the download
times) and the panel is hardly the only thing we covered that day. If you were there in costume, you may very well
see yourself, hamming it up for my camera. For those who weren't there, I hope this gives you a satisfying first hand
look at what it was like to be at San Diego Comic Con!"
~ Alternatecoppa
Thanks again to Alternatecoppa
and the other good folks of DH and DF who collaborated on this project! Working together for the fans pays off and we're glad
to have met everyone face to face finally. See y'all next year!
EDIT: Amira, a dedicated DH staffer and SDCC attendee has been working hard on her
site AvatarAmira.com to upload lots of cool SDCC pictures and the like. Check it out if you get the chance!
Nick to Release Season 3 Trailer on TurboNick
Posted by Acastus on August 4, 2007 @ 1:52 pm EST (link)
We have received word from Nickelodeon that the full season 3 trailer shown at San Diego Comic
Con a week ago will be posted in the near future on TurboNick. The time frame mentioned was "about a week", but we should probably start keeping an eye out for
it now. This is a welcome development that will give fans the highest quality material to sift through for hints on season
3 plot and character development!
Nick also asked us, and anyone else who took a video of the entire SDCC panel, to
not post them in public. They asked this because they plan to release a high quality copy of this footage on a future Avatar
DVD box set, "most likely...the Season 3 box set" according to our last communication. Yes, that's season 3, not the season
2 box set coming out on September 11th. That said, Nick generously allowed us to put together a "highlights" clip of the rest
of the panel which our partner alternatecoppa of Distant Horizon / Dongbu Feng is working on furiously using a combo of the footage we both shot. We hope to have something to post
from that effort soon.
On a separate note, many people have emailed us about how we made the "Star Wars" type opening
crawl to celebrate the season 3 premiere date announcement. First, we're glad you enjoyed it! We thought a little tidbit like
that might be fun for the many of us Avatar fans who are also Star Wars geeks. The clip should be available on youtube indefinitely, but we also put it up in the special episode list and uploaded a few screenshots.
We're happy to answer the question on how it was made, though, because it allows us to showcase
our partners in crime on this effort, Masakox, and the guys over on Daily Motion who make the awesome parody "Naruto Abridged." The story in a nutshell was that, after we decided to make a "Star Wars" type opening, we wrote
the text and made the ending slide, but we couldn't go farther because no one on staff had the skill to produce the clip.
After laughing our behinds off watching "Naruto Abridged", we decided to contact Masakox and ask them for help. The result
was what you saw below. We had a lot of fun making it with MasakoX and his folks, and we have no reservations about encouraging
everyone who loves Naruto to go check out their hilarious series so that you too can understand the mysteries of "Gaara of
the Funk!" If you become as much of a "Naruto Abridged" nut as some of us have, go ahead and check out their forums as well!
SDCC Avatar Panel Blowout! 374 Screenshots Now Up!
Posted by Acastus on July 28, 2007 @ 7:21 pm EST (link)

The Avatar panel was held here at SDCC this morning at 10:30AM. The room was packed to capacity
and the program was awesome! Tons of hard core fans from ASN, Distant Horizon, DeviantArt, LiveJournal and many other places
were there in force. It was great to finally meet so many of the people we talk with online and attach names to faces! ASN,
Distant Horizon and Dongbu Feng have agreed to share videos and recordings to make sure that the fans don't miss a thing!
We'll be writing up a full con report for the "Con Report" section and posting it in the forums, but as you can see
from the screenshot on the left (Maiko shippers rejoice!), the trailers and other items displayed for season three were spectacular!
We have a 61 minute video of the whole presentation which we will try and post very soon, but in the meantime we've posted
below the season 3 trailer for your enjoyment. Pardon the loss of focus in a few places, all camera mistakes are my own!
We
will post two sets of screenshots for the video of this panel, one will be the complete set, and one will be just screenshots
from the season 3 promo and the character, background art and storyboard shots.
EDIT: 374 screenshots of the panel video have now been posted! Enjoy!
Season 3 to Premiere at 8 PM EST on September 21st!
Posted by Acastus on July 27, 2007 @ 1:01 am EST (link)

The premiere date for season three has been released via Nickelodeon's scavenger hunt here at
SDCC. As noted in the update below, the goal of the hunt was to visit five different booths and collect five cards, which
you could then turn in for a card that revealed the premiere date for season three. A thumbnail of this final card appears
at the right, click on it for a larger version. Strangely enough, all of the first five cards had the premiere date printed
on them as well! Anyway, it's finally official.
The back of the card says, "Go to nick.com/comicon this week for the
exclusive game: Avatar Fortress Fight 2." Sounds like fun, so it might be worth checking out!
We will post more updates
over the next few days with information from the Avatar panel here at SDCC, but in the meantime here is a little Season 3
promo we put together just for fun. Hope you get a kick out of it!
Stay tuned to ASN for more SDCC
coverage in the days ahead!
SDCC Preview Night - Season 3 Poster
Posted by Acastus on July 26, 2007 @ 7:14 am EST (link)
SDCC is finally here! Several ASN staff members have already arrived in San Diego and attended
preview night last night, including Avatar_Mom and Aangster who snapped the photo of the Season 3 poster at right. Click on
the image to see a larger version.
Most interestingly, the poster indicates at the bottom that Nick has decided to
run a scavenger hunt where, if you succeed, you get a card that reveals the premiere date for Season 3. It says, for those
who can't quite read the fuzzy letters on the picture:
"Collect 5 cards and return to the Nick Booth for the Super
Bonus card which reveals the date of the Season Premiere of Avatar Book 3 - Fire"
Since we're likely to get a large
volume of new information from SDCC regarding the new season of Avatar, we've set up a SDCC talkback string in the forum. Please drop by to check for new tidbits of news as they come in from the many fans
attending the convention! Several ASN staff members will also be posting con reports as we go along and we hope to have video
and screenshots from the panel on Saturday.
Thanks again to Avatar_Mom and Aangster for the picture! The rest of the
ASN staff will be heading to San Diego tonight, so more coverage from us and many other sites is sure to come!

Season Three, Volume I DVD Release Date Announced
Posted by Acastus on July 10, 2007 @ 1:54 pm EST (link)
In a surprise move, the release date for the first DVD set for the as yet unaired third season
of Avatar has been announced by Paramount Home Entertainment. The street date for the set, which will include the first five
episodes of the new season, is October 30th. Please see the full write up on TVShowsOnDVD.com which contains further details, including some solid speculation on a season three premiere date
of late September.
The awesome cover art at left (click on the thumbnail to see the full size version) has the Gaang
in Fire Nation garb, and, as many have been speculating would be the case, Aang with a full head of hair. This revealing cover
art, along with the release date being announced before the episodes have even aired, has caused some controversy in the forum over the authenticity of this information. To settle this fast, we contacted Dave Lambert, the News
Director for TVShowsOnDVD.com. He confirmed the information and indicated that TVShowsOnDVD.com gets its information right from Paramount's password protected press website.
If the cover
art is any judge, season three looks worth the wait! Let's hope for more good news at SDCC!
Avatar Panel Announced for SDCC
Posted by Acastus on July 9, 2007 @ 10:27 am EST (link)
It's official. San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC) will have a panel dedicated to season three
of Avatar: The Last Airbender! The panel will take place on Saturday, at 10:30AM. The SDCC website contains the following
description:
"10:30-11:30 Into the Fire Nation: Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last
Airbender, Season 3 Sneak Peek"
"Get a first look at what's to come in the third season, including clips from new
episodes; a visual tour of the Fire Nation from show creator Bryan Konietzko and director Joaquim Dos Santos (Justice League);
insider information from the show's head writer Aaron Ehasz (Futurama); and a voice-over demonstration from Dee Baker (The
Fairly OddParents), who voices Appa and Momo. Don't forget to come in your Avatar costume—there will be a very special
prize for the best one! Moderated by Eric Coleman, VP/executive producer, animation production and development. Room 6A"
This
exciting panel promises to be even better than last year's! We can only hope this means the long hiatus is coming to a close...
we'll find out in a few weeks!
Avatar Comic Included in August Edition of Nick Magazine
Posted by Acastus on July 4, 2007 @ 8:05 am EST (link)
An extra treat has popped up to help us over our collective bout of Avatar Withdrawal Syndrome.
The ever active Johane Matte (rufftoon) has a two page Avatar in this August's edition of Nickelodeon Magazine.
The first two panes of this comic appear on the right. You can click on the graphic to see
a full size version of these first two panes. The rest of the comic focuses on Sokka's humorous interruption of Toph's attempt
to train Aang.
Just to be clear, this is NOT from the all Avatar edition of the magazine that will hit the stands
in a few months that is discussed in the update below. This is just a sweet bonus in this month's edition of Nick Mag, which
is available at book stores and news stands today. Enjoy!
